Sonnet for Sisterhood Everlasting

We two who were not meant to be twins—
You follow me two summers behind
Same in our predilections, triumphs, sins
Blind child leading the blind.
A prayer upon a penny.
I place trust in luck, in little change,
In knowing that a scar is only a stripe when among many.
Strange:
This is our only world.
It can be no other.
The neck of time cranes, curled
Towards the navel, into mother.
I have known you since before memory
And I will know you after.
